GLOUCESTER, Mass. -- January 1, 1997 -- Today all of the 818 classmates in Boston area and some of their spouses celebrated their ten year reunion.
They are: Sheng He, Qiang Lu (and his wife Wei Wen), Xiaoyan Mo (organizer of this reunion), Ding Xue, Hong Zhang, Qiang Zhou (and his wife Kunxing Luo). They enjoyed their Reunion & New Year dinner at Dragon Light, the finest Chinese restaurant in Gloucester, a town with a Chinese population of about two or three (Hong is one of them). Although disappointed by the restaurant’s lack of fish which is considered a must-have dish for a Chinese New Year dinner, they are satisfied with the fresh and abundant cholesterol they received from the shrimp dishes, and had a very pleasant and amusing chat over the dinner under the dim lights.
After dinner they went to Hong’s apartment which is at the top of a hill in a fishing village to continue the celebration. Accompanied by soft, tender Chinese bourgeois decadent music, facing the Atlantic ocean, sipping authentic Chinese tea, they recalled their beautiful days at their alma mater, shared information about other classmates, tried to identify some classmates and match them with their kids and husbands in the photos brought by Xiaoyan from the west coast, took a lot of photos, looked forward to their future with confidence. None of them could believe that more than ten years had passed since they graduated from USTC. They found that each person still retains his or her distinctive personality and style, and all of them still share many common values given by their alma mater, they still have genuine care about each other from the bottom of heart.
They decided to start the construction of 818 Web page and call for the support for this project from the classmates in other areas. They also decided that they will meet again on the finest beach of North Shore in Gloucester this coming summer. The celebration ended at about 10:00 PM with a lot of unfinished talks.
